Return of the Turtle Camporee 2009 Announcement April 25-26, 2009 Scouts: Here's your chance to try some backpacking, biking or canoeing. Get your Patrol together for a couple of day hikes and at least one full equipment shakedown to make sure all the guys know what to take and how to pack it. Then, join the other Scouts from the Buckeye District for the traditional Return of the Turtle Camporee April 25 and 26, 2009. We will hike in about 8 miles on Saturday morning and out about the same distance on Sunday morning. You will get to see one of the two places in Ohio where both the trail in and the trail out are uphill. (That's what the guys have said since the Presidential Turtle in 1989.) Want to bike and not hike…. There will be a Biking Option as well. Your patrol will bike to the campsite on Saturday and bike back to the starting point on Sunday. Get your patrol out for those weekend rides and equipment checks. Note: This is a limited participation option. More to follow………. If your Patrol or Troop is qualified, you might want to try the Canoeing Option. Crews will canoe about 25 miles down the Mohican River to camp on Saturday. On Sunday they will canoe another 25 miles down the river to the take-out point. (No the river isn't uphill.) Don't miss the Name the Turtle contest. Get your entry in by January 31, 2009. If your entry is selected, it will be used on the Camporee Neckerchief that everyone will get. Also, you'll be recognized at the Campfire with some neat prizes. Additionally, those who successfully hike, bike or canoe in and out will get the Turtle Trail Medal. Future Bulletin’s and additional detail information will be forwarded to your Scout Master early next year for your use in your PLC’s and Troop planning. Yours in Scouting, Tom Pauling, “Boy Scout Activities Chairman”
