SWAMP ROMP 2008

THE OUTDOOR CODE:

AS AN AMERICAN, I WILL DO MY BEST TO: BE CLEAN IN MY OUTDOOR MANNERS; BE CAREFUL WITH FIRE; BE CONSIDERATE IN THE OUTDOORS; BE CONSERVATION MINDED.

The "Swamp Romp" is an annual conservation project (stream cleanup) held in conjunction with the Upper Arlington Civic Association’s Civic Pride Day. Scouts and the Swamp Romp have become a major component of the Upper Arlington Civic Association’s annual event. Last year, the Scouts of Buckeye District provided nearly half of the 200 youth and adult volunteers as part of this project.

"Swamp Romp" Schedule of Events:

1.  The Upper Arlington Civic Association’s, Civic Pride Day, event is scheduled for Saturday May 10, 2008.

2. This is a RAIN or SHINE event.

3. 7:00 to 9:00 am. - Meet at the Thompson Park North Shelter house for registration and free pancake breakfast. Scouts (youth) will receive an event T-Shirt and patch from the UA Civic Association during the registration/breakfast time frame.

4. 9:00 to 9:30: Opening. Safety Brief. Issue instructions and assignments. Distribute safety equipment.

5. 9:30 Begin "swamp romping" – stream cleanup operations.

6. Units will be dismissed when they finish their assigned section of stream and turn in safety equipment. Most assignments are completed before lunchtime.

Have you done your conservation good turn? The "Swamp Romp" will count toward the Cub Scout & Boy Scout Conservation Award and will meet numerous other Scout requirements including service hours.

As with any similar undertaking, volunteerism is the key to success. If you or your Den, Pack, Patrol, Troop or Crew is interested, please contact me during the day at 583- 5360 or email jpalmer@uaoh.net.

Thank You.
